Harmony with Traditional Chinese Medicine...

Acupuncture and Herbs

Acupuncture and more......

Acupuncture is now widely used and accepted all over the world and in the UK. There are over 3000 qualified Acupuncturists registered with the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC). www.acupuncture.org.uk

BAcC members have completed a first-degree-level training or equivalent in traditional acupuncture including substantial elements of western anatomy, physiology and pathology.

Your BAcC acupuncturist will record all relevant details of your health condition and your medical history before treatment commences. Occasionally, based on this information, you may be referred to your GP for further investigation.

Only pre-sterilised single-use needles are used and are safely disposed of after your treatment.

BAcC Codes of Safe Practice and Professional Conduct are followed at all times.

BAcC members have full medical malpractice and public/product liability insurance cover.

Nicola is also a member of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM) and can offer treatment with Chinese Herbs if she feels this is necessary. www.rchm.co.uk.

Advice on diet, exercise, relaxation and other lifestyle choices will be offered as part of the treatment. We are all different and need different things.

Acupuncture, the NHS, and NICE guidelines.

National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) now recommends acupuncture for the treatment of persistent non-specific low back pain and migraine and tension type headaches.

NICE guidance for cancer services also state that there have been three systematic reviews of randomised controlled trials not limited exclusively to patients with cancer and there is preliminary results of positive evidence for acupuncture in reducing nausea and vomiting. ‘There is some indication that therapies might have the ability to improve patients’ general sense of well-being and quality of life through, for instance, reductions in distress, anxiety, pain and nausea...' (p152-3).

Acupuncture is also recommended for dental pain and in some circumstances osteoarthritis of the knee alongside other treatment.

A growing body of evidence-based clinical research shows that traditional acupuncture and Chinese herbs safely treat a wide range of common health problems. Please see the research sections of the BAcC’s website www.acupuncture.org.uk and the RCHM website www.rchm.co.uk

The World Health Organisation lists a wide variety of conditions that have been treated with acupuncture in clinical trials. www.who.int
